After an exciting national search, the MCSA Board is thrilled to share that we have selected our new Executive Director, Dr. John Dixon.
Thank you to everyone who contributed ideas, shared feedback, and helped shape this important decision.
With new leadership and growing momentum across our charter sector, this is a defining moment for MCSA. Mississippi is being recognized nationally for academic gains, including historic progress in early literacy and 8th-grade math. Charter schools are proud to be part of that success, and with Dr. Dixon’s leadership, we are ready to build on it.
A native of Meridian, Mississippi, Dr. Dixon brings more than 15 years of experience as a teacher, school leader, and nonprofit executive dedicated to expanding educational opportunities. Most recently, he served as Managing Director of K-12 Partnerships at the National Education Equity Lab, where he partnered with hundreds of high schools nationwide to connect under-resourced students with college-level courses. His career has also included instructional and leadership roles at charter networks such as Achievement First, DREAM Charter Schools, Democracy Prep, and KIPP, as well as with Teach For America and Clarksdale Collegiate.
Dr. Dixon brings a deep passion for public education and a bold vision for the future of charter schools in Mississippi. As Executive Director, he is committed to elevating MCSA’s profile, expanding access to high-quality public charter school options, and ensuring that charter schools across the state are equipped to serve students and families with excellence.
Dr. Dixon began his career teaching middle school English in Houston with Teach For America and later helped strengthen instructional practices and school culture at a charter school in New Orleans during a pivotal post-Katrina era. He holds a Ph.D. in K-12 Educational Leadership from the University of Mississippi, a master’s in Education Policy and Leadership from American University, and a bachelor’s degree from Xavier University of Louisiana.
Over the next few months, Dr. Dixon will visit charter schools across Mississippi, listening to and learning from school leaders, educators, students, and families. These visits will help shape a shared agenda that builds on what’s working and meets the evolving needs of our communities.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Dixon to the MCSA community. We look forward to working together to advance high-quality public education for all Mississippi families.
