About Charlie Bufalino
As Senior Director of State Advocacy & Support at the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, Charlie works to improve public charter school laws across the country and support the growth of high-quality public charter schools. Prior to this role, he served Tennessee as Assistant Commissioner of Policy & Legislative Affairs for the Department of Education and Governor’s Office, where he successfully executed the passage of 13 administration education bills — including landmark reforms such as a full overhaul of Tennessee’s K-12 funding formula, foundational early literacy reforms, and permanently established summer learning and tutoring opportunities for at-risk students.
Charlie began his career as a start-up employee at Rocketship Education, leading growth strategy, policy and legislative advocacy, and charter writing and securing efforts. He is a graduate of Pomona College with a bachelor’s degree in History and holds a Master’s in Public Policy from Vanderbilt University.
